The Correct Answer Is Sun.

Rubes was working on a HighLights workbook last night and there was a section of questions. Among them was, "Name three things that are yellow." She starts listing off all kinds of yellow items she can see right there in the kitchen. So I decided to see if she could name things not visible but from her head. Thus the following conversation.

Me: "Rubes, can you think of anything yellow that's outside?"

Rubes: "Pee."

Me: "I'm sorry, what did you say?" (Hubby is trying not to laugh.)

Rubes: "Pee. You know mom, don't eat the yellow snow."

Me: "Ah, yes. Can you think of anything else?"

Rubes: Looks puzzled, "Umm."

Hubby: Giggling, "How about the sun?"

So then I decide to call Grandma and Grandpa and give them a chuckle. And thus the following conversation.

Me: "Hi Dad, I just asked Rubes to name something yellow outside..."

Grandpa: Interrupting me, "Dog pee."

Me: "Umm, yea, she said pee. How?"

Grandpa: Giggling, "I'm a farm boy and it's winter. There isn't much sun but a whole lot of dog pee in the snow."

Ah, Yes...I'm looking forward to spring when the answer will be "SUN" again.

Necktie Skirt

I finished this for a Birthday gift a few days ago. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Tis' the third necktie skirt I've made. This one was adjustable with an elastic waistband and button holes! Had I known how wonderful my sewing machine is with making button holes I'd have used the feature long ago. (I was fearful!) A front and a back view. There is no pattern or at least I don't have one. I simply lay out my chosen ties, cut them in half, alternate big & little to my liking and sew them together.
My oldest sis wants the next skirt I make. She'll be my first adult recipient.... could be fun.

Fun, Frugalness and Facebook.

The resolutions are at work. Family time has made a welcome comeback. Yesterday it was a simple game of beanbag toss in the living room and we all laughed a lot. It even involved a "Mommy" dance that I'm not ready to share with the masses but one that both Rubes and Teo mimicked including the bum shake! Frugalness and creativity are at work together in 4 or is it 5 projects? There are 2 demin/fleece blankets started for a family that lost everything in a house fire. A stuffed "Wacky Wiener" Dog I'm sewing for a little boy. And finally Rubes has been invited to a birthday party this Saturday. We're making her friend a necklace and a necktie skirt. (I promise to post photos soon.) Lastly.........Facebook. Hmmmmm. I wasn't sure I wanted to but a friend of mine strongly (I repeat STRONGLY) suggested I set up a profile. Whoa. I'm hoping I'll be able to keep up with all this computer stuff.

2009 Resolutions

2009 Resolutions in no particular order. Quality time with the family. Lots more of it. (Like leaf piles in fall.)
I'm embracing my frugal side. (We lopped off this tree from our backyard and the star came from a broken princess wand.)

I will use my creativity, art and craftiness more often. (I made these pillows for the kids to match their denim sided blankets for Christmas.)
I'm going to get my motorcycle license. (I'm going on a road trip with my biker sis, oh yes!)

And finally I'm determined to be more aware of all that I have and to be grateful/thankful.
Happy New Year!
